Sleepin' Under the Bridge
Rabbit Recordings (RR1118 [Cassette]) 1983

The tradition of the craftsman is a long one. Be it weaver, potter, cabinet maker or any other craft, the essentials are the same: a long apprenticeship; fine attention to detail; painstaking selection of the materials; careful design and workmanship. On top of this is the endless capacity for work which can only be called the labor of love. There are times when these ingredients combine to produce something which goes beyond wood, wool, or clay, and this is the moment the craftsman strives for with all his heart.

Banjo Dan is part of this tradition. Working within the sprawling, ever changing medium of country music for more than twenty years, he has been crafting finely written songs of love and death, good times and bad, folly and faith. It shows. There are no cracks, the seams flow into the fabric. The joints fit perfectly, the colors are beautiful. He has done what the craftsman strives for.

In these high tech times, this collection of songs will surprise you, as when you look up from the snarling chaos of rush hour traffic to see the rising moon. This is new music, but in it you will find little flash, less glitter and none of the short lived gloss of the mass produced. Instead you will find good yarns, tasty instrumentals, country heartbreaks, howls and hallelujahs. Listen to it and share the enjoyment of the work of a master craftsman.
