A banjo, a mandolin, a fiddle, a guitar and a big acoustic bass. Lively rhythms, inspired solos, strong voices soaring in harmony When Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys hit the stage, both the band and the audience are in for a good time!

After more than 25 years of touring and performing, the Plowboys retain the freshness and enthusiasm of professionals who truly love bluegrass music. Their show is frill of energy and humor; their unpretentious songs tell of the lives and loves and memories of everyday people. With a special emphasis on original songs with local themes, the band has built a strong following and a name virtually synonymous with "Vermont music."

Among the best-known bands in New England, the Plowboys have performed in concert halls and opera houses, festivals, fairs and community parks throughout the North-east. They've played in Canada, toured England and represented the U.S. at the prestigious Mondialfolk Festival in Italy, and in 1988 became the first American bluegrass band to tour the Soviet Union.

Onstage, the Plowboys are led by guitarist Al Davis, a humorist widely recognized as one of the best emcees in the business, and a strong lead singer. Mandolinist Willy Lindner is a dynamic player known for his intense solos and fine original compositions. Bassist Jon Henry Drake lends a high, clear tenor voice, providing the authentic sound essential to true mountain music. Fiddler Jason Bergman -- also an accomplished jazz and classical violinist -- contributes sparkling technique and an energetic stage personality "Banjo Dan" Lindner is a hard-driving banjo picker and a prolific songwriter whose provocative material sets the band apart from all others.

Banjo Dan and the band have recorded eight albums, winning praise from sources as diverse as CD Review and Bluegrass Unlimited, which advises, "The South doesn't have the corner on good bluegrass groups anymore. In New England, Banjo Dan and the Mid-nite Plowboys can pick and sing with the best"

Or take it from a leading art journalist, "In Vermont, bluegrass means Banjo Dan."
