Here’s quick update to our recent newsletter. First of all, if you were planning to go up to Sugarbush on October 3 and catch The VT Bluegrass Pioneers at Hogan’s Pub, forget about it. The place just burned down, and I don’t think they’re going to move us to another venue at Sugarbush. Too bad about that one!
Meanwhile we’ve added a couple shows at the end of Oct and early Nov, so I’ll add those after a quick summary of the gigs I listed in September newsletter.
September 28 – tomorrow: Marshfield, VT. Pioneers at the Jaquith Library, Old Schoolhouse Common, 122 School Street, 1:30 PM as part of the town’s Harvest Festival.
October 8: Middlebury, VT, The Residence at Otter Creek, 350 Lodge Road, 10 AM, Banjo Dan’s Songs of Vermont. I’ll be speaking about the inspirations and sources for some of the songs on my four Vermont albums, telling the fascinating stories behind them, and singing several. Sponsored by Addison County Retired Educators, the program is free and open to the public.
October 9: Essex Jct, VT, Pioneers at Black Flannel Brewery, 21 Essex Way #201, 6 PM.
October 10: Calais, VT, The Whammy Bar at Maple Corner, 7 PM.
October 11: Vermont Forest Cemetery, 750 Beaver Meadow Road, The Sky Blue Boys (Banjo Dan and Willy Lindner). This unique cemetery is celebrating the second anniversary of its opening with tours, informative presentations and refreshments throughout the day to introduce folks to this natural alternative to standard burial options. Join us around 3 PM for live music under the trees.
October 12: East Montpelier, VT, Peck Farm Orchard, 750 Sibley Road. Pick your own apples and enjoy music by the Pioneers from 1-4 PM.
October 26: South Burlington, VT, Higher Ground, 1214 Williston Road. The Pioneers will be contributing a set of bluegrass to an important multi-band concert celebrating the life and legacy of Robert Resnik. Anyone who ever caught his “All the Traditions” program on Vermont Public radio knows how much Robert contributed to music — all kinds of music — here in Vermont. Hours are yet to be determined. I’ll get you that info, along with ticket price, as soon as I can.
October 29: Barre VT, Ladder One Grille and Pub, 8 South Main Street at the old Firehouse. It’s the Pioneers with a bit of pre-Halloween spook grass.
November 8: Barre, VT, Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 39 Washington Street, 4 PM. This outstanding community-minded church will be sponsoring a warming shelter to help unhoused people and others in need of a place to warm up during the cold weather to come. The Sky Blue Boys will play a concert to help the church raise money for this important cause. All are welcome, with admission by donation at the door. $20 is suggested, but whatever you can afford to contribute will be warmly welcomed. Thank you so much!
That’s it for now. See you soon.
